勿忘我的名称来自一个悲剧性的恋爱故事。
相传一位德国骑士跟他的恋人散步在多瑙河畔。
散步途中看见河畔绽放着蓝色花朵的小花。
骑士不顾生命危险探身摘花，不料却失足掉入急流中。
自知无法获救的骑士说了一句“别忘记我！”，
便把那朵蓝色透明的花朵扔向恋人，
随即消失在水中。
此后骑士的恋人日夜将蓝色小花配戴在发际，
以显示对爱人的不忘与忠贞。
而那朵蓝色透明花朵，
便因此被称作“勿忘我”，
其花语便是“不要忘记我”、“真实的爱”、“真爱”。

Legend has it that in medieval times, a knight and his lady were walking along the side of a river.
He picked a posy of flowers, but because of the weight of his armour he fell into the river.
As he was drowning he threw the posy to his loved one and shouted "Forget-me-not".
This is a flower connected with romance and tragic fate.
It was often worn by ladies as a sign of faithfulness and enduring love.
